Unpopular opinion: I ordere this almost every single time I go to Jollibee. I don’t know what it is, but just something about it is very nostalgic for me. So happy I got to re-create it with ingredients from Trader Joe’s 😌

Instructions

  1. Heat oil (2 Tbsp) in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the sliced mushrooms (1 package)and garlic powder (1 tsp). Sauté for 3-5 minutes, or until the mushrooms are soft. Remove from the pan and set aside.

  2. In the same skillet, season the beef patties (4) with salt and pepper. Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side, flipping once or twice, until browned with crispy edges and a nice crust. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.

  3. In the same pan, melt the butter (4 Tbsp) over medium heat. Once melted, add the flour (4 Tbsp) and whisk together to form a roux. Cook for about 1-2 minutes until lightly browned.

  4. Gradually whisk in the beef broth (17 oz) and add 1/4 teaspoon of salt. Continue whisking until the sauce thickens, about 3-5 minutes.

  5. Return the sautéed mushrooms and beef patties to the pan. Spoon the gravy over the patties, cover, and simmer for about 5 minutes, or until the patties reach your desired doneness. If you prefer a thicker sauce, uncover and simmer until it reaches the desired consistency.

  6. Serve the burger steaks over steamed rice, generously spooning the gravy and mushrooms on top.
